Artisans
Our collars are handcrafted by the Kibiko Women's Group, a community of Maasai women artisans in Kajiado, Kenya. Led by Maria, the group carries on generations of traditional beadwork, using skills passed down through their families. Each piece reflects their creativity, culture, and craftsmanship.
We're grateful to Grace of Naruki, and Anne, Maria's daughter, for helping build this partnership and translating conversations from Maa to English. Their support allows us to share the artisans' stories with people around the world while celebrating the traditions behind every handmade piece.

My name is Anne, daughter of Maria. I’m here as a member of the group. I’m here to translate my mom’s message from English to Maasai, and I appreciate the work that you are doing, thank you very much. Her name is Karsis, she's a member of the group. She’s Maria. Camerawoman: Can you tell us a little about yourself and the work you do?
Maria: (translated from Maa) My name is Maria, a Maasai woman. I have been making beadwork for many years. This is the work I grew up seeing my mother and grandmother do.

Camerawoman: How did you start to make beadwork and what do you love most about it?
Maria: (translated from Maa) When I was a young girl in the 80s, I would sit with my mother and watch her bead. Little by little, she taught me, beadwork is part of who we are. I love creating beautiful patterns and knowing that each piece carries our culture.

Camerawoman: How has this work made a difference in your life or your family’s life?
Maria: (translated from Maa) This work has helped me provide for my family. I can buy food, pay school fees, and take care of my children. It also gives me pride because I earn an income through my own hands and skills.
